Alan was my very first best mate, living on opposite sides of Wivern Place. Playing football every day and exploring the post war landscape, dangerous but serious fun. We started at the Grange together and spent a lot of time together. They moved to Stanley street and one Christmas, as Ray Keem will recall, Alan got an electric guitar, couldn’t play for toffee but Ray picked it up and made it sing, with an old valve amp I lugged down for Canal Street.
Two things happened, Alan developed a life long love of music, buying records every Saturday, this developed into DJing, he played for my parents golden wedding with David taking over the reins, at the linnets club, probably the last time I saw him in 2000 or so. I moved away at 18 so lost touch.
The other thing that happened as a result was Ray bought himself a guitar and, everyone knows what happened with that!
Great memories of a lovely guy. My deepest condolences go out to all his family.
