Mary played a very special part in mine and Liz’s lives. Liz went to work for Mary and Arthur as their Saturday girl. Helping on the farm, with the chickens and also helping Mary keep everything spick and span in the House. I was a school friend of Andrew, Mary’s nephew. I would go to the farm with Andrew at the weekends walking the dogs and helping out on the farm especially at harvest time. We also taught ourselves to drive in a car we were allowed to keep at the farm. Mary encouraged me to ask Liz out for a date and we subsequently married in 1986. Such was Liz’s friendship with Mary, she continued to work at the farm on a Saturday for a number of years after we were married. Mary was an incredible person and whilst after 95 years her body became tired she was so very lucky to remain so sharp and incisive. She will be missed, but our lives are so much richer for having known her.
