Fred will be sadly missed. I worked with him at Wrexham Lager Brewery for many years and was delighted to meet him for a pint in the Black Boy, Caernarfon, recently. He was in such good form that his departure came as a great shock.
I have enclosed a photo of Fred and his boss, Brewery Director Evan Martin up to their necks when the river Gwenfro flooded the lager brewery. It seems appropriate as we were all well aware of Fred's days in the merchant navy as ship's engineer. It also shows his preparedness to work in the worst of situations.
Fred was appreciated by all the workforce - known at the time and mentioned to me in numerous calls to those who worked with him. He was the brewery's expert, apart from simple engineering, on biodiversity, Sunday opening of pubs, teaching the Rhos contingent to speak proper Caernarfon Welsh and ensuring there was no waste at Brewery buffets!
He is and will be very fondly remembered
