MayWHITHAMFormerly of Accrington, died peacefully at a nursing home with her family at her bedside on November 29, aged 91 years. The devoted wife of the late Basil, loving mum to Derek, Neville and the late David, dear mother-in-law of Alison, cherished grandma of Amy and dear sister of Bernard, the late William, the late Brian and the late Brenda. May spent her working life in local mills as a weaver and later took to welding at Lupton’s in Accrington, she was a true grafter, working hard to provide for her family. Together with husband Basil, May travelled extensively throughout Europe and also visited America. In her younger years, May enjoyed dancing, walking, playing bingo – having won many cash prizes and dominoes. She was a former Labour Councillor, serving alongside her husband for Hyndburn’s Central Ward. May loved animals and during the past five years, whilst being cared for by Alison and Neville, shared a special bond with their Siamese cat, Merlin. Most of all, May was a doting family lady, who loved nothing more than spending time with those closest to her.
