SamuelTHOMPSONMr Samuel Aicken Thompson, of Oswaldtwistle, died on Monday, February 7, aged 99. Samuel was born in Magheramorne in Ireland on May 16, 1922, the last of seven sisters and brothers. He joined the RAF at 19, and later flew as part of the Bomber Command as an upper turret gunner, and went on many raids, such as Sorpe Dam, and the Tirpitz Battleship, before working at Rolls Royce in Derby as a skilled miller, English Electric, and Finch Watsons. Samuel liked archery, golfed with a 9 handicap, then took up art and drawing to a high standard. Husband to the late Margery, who he met whilst in the RAF, when she was in the WRAF, he leaves children Maureen, Sam, Tony, Sally, Gail, and Karen, 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. The funeral was held on Monday, February 21, at Accrington Crematorium, led by Kathy Unsworth. Funeral director: Hyndburn Funeral Services, Oswaldtwistle.
