JohnTHOMPSONMr John Thompson, known as Jack, of Accrington, died on Monday, January 10, aged 87. John was educated at St John’s Primary School, Accrington before moving on to Rhyddings Technical, Accrington. John had a keen interest in electrical work, at which he became an apprentice electrician until the age of 27, when he began working at Thorney Bank. He then worked for many years at Giron Ferrers, and in later life retired from BAE. In his spare time, John loved nothing more than being with his beloved family; creating memories that will be cherished forever. He enjoyed visits to Newcastle and holidays abroad. John had a passion for gardening and a love for sport. He was a Blackburn Rovers Football Club season ticket holder for many years, where he spent many enjoyable Saturday afternoons with his friends. In the later years, John supported his local team, Accrington Stanley, again becoming a season ticket holder. John, or as many of his friends knew him, Jack, was a great handyman; he was always able to put his hand to anything he was faced with. Friends and neighbours would call upon him, and they always knew that he would be able to fix the problem. John loved spending time with his friends, having a pint, talking sport, or putting the worlds to right. He also enjoyed his Monday afternoons attending the ‘Monday Club’ at New Era, where he would play dominoes and snooker. John was the son of Arthur and Elizabeth Thompson, husband, best friend and soulmate to Jennie, father to Lynn and father-in-law to David, grandad to Andrew and Jessica, and great-grandad to Keaton Andrew. John was a true gentleman, and he will be sadly missed by all. The funeral will take place on Friday, January 28, at 1.40pm at Accrington Crematorium, followed by Burnley Road Bowling Club to celebrate his life. Family flowers only; donations for East Lancashire Hospice c/o funeral director Hyndburn Funeral Services, Accrington.
