Alfred StephenSTENNINGFuneral to be held on Saturday 19th November at the Surrey & Sussex Crematorium at 11:15am With sadness, yet unyielding gratitude, we recognise the passing of legendary Horley resident Steve Stenning who left this life on October 15th, 2022. He was determined his way in life would always be with love, tolerance, humility, grace, and patience. A World War II and Korean War veteran, he'll be forever remembered for his grit and unwavering work ethic. Forever handsome and hardworking, he serves as a reminder to get it done; for no one will pay your bills for you - regardless of how good looking you may be. His family cannot imagine that upon his birth in 1920 his generation would bear witness to the century of change ahead. He would welcome the magnificence of the digital era, electricity in our homes, and mobile telephones. It is with that exemplary and adaptive behaviour for which we shall mourn and cherish him. He never stopped. He never stopped being a Father and Husband. His wife, Patricia Emily Stenning (d. 1992) and his daughter Linda Ann Shelley (d. 1998) received a sweet goodnight wave at the bottom of his stairs each evening before he retired to bed. He never stopped with his actions as the best Grandad to his three Granddaughters, writing them letters and postcards to America with funny jokes and loads of love as they grew into their adult lives. His great-grandchildren, Carys and Kevin, with whom he was thick as thieves, are forever bonded through their shared stories-often silly, always fun! He never stopped in assuring his family-Thomas, Guy, Tina, and Janet- knew how much they meant to him. He never stopped living and introducing us all to a wonderful woman, Judy, who will forever be a part of our family. He knew how to pick friends well. Those that were lucky enough to know this man could enter any cheeky conversation and have a good chuckle at his infectious laugh. He tap danced his way into our hearts and left on his own terms. Without a fuss and with a smile. Rest In Peace, our love. In lieu of flowers, Steve requested donations be made to cancerresearchuk.org or Macmillan.org.uk
