Barrie was like a father to me. From the day he took me under his wing at Holmfirth Fire Station, he showed nothing but kindness, patience, and support. He was always willing to lend a hand and had a smile that could light up any room.

When I was injured and had to leave full-time fire service work, it was Barrie who organised a wonderful leaving do at the Holmfirth Civic. That gesture meant the world to me and is something I’ll never forget.

Rest easy, my dear friend. You’ll always hold a special place in my heart.
