Haydn WilliamREESPeacefully on Monday 17th January 2022, after a short illness at Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend, Haydn of Port Talbot. Husband of Linda for 64 years, father of Matthew and Jonathan, father-in-law of Sian and Claire, Grandpa Ay-Ay to Bill and Ernie and beloved uncle of John Price. After leaving school in Port Talbot, Haydn served his National Service with the RAF. He then trained to be a school teacher at Caerleon and Shoreditch, spending the vast majortity of his working life at Maesteg Grammar which then became Maesteg Comprehensive School from 1960-1988. Mr Rees (or "Snips" as the pupils referred to him, as the only metal working tools he had were tin snips when he joined the department), taught woodwork, metalwork, cdt and technical drawing at the school and was also an external examiner for a number of examination boards. His real passion was coaching the school cricket team - several of whom became professional cricketers. A long and enjoyable retirement was spent supporting youth music, solving crossword puzzles (he won prize crossword competitions for The Times, Sunday Times, Daily and Sunday Telegraph and The Financial Times). Haydn was a proud member of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) for over 30 years. Funeral Wednesday 9th February 2022 at Margam Crematorium at 3.15pm. Those unable to attend in person will be able to access the service on the day and for 7 days afterwards by contacting the family directly. Family flowers only by request. Haydn will have one last trip to London later this year when his cremated remains will be scattered at Lord's Cricket Ground. Enquiries to Gareth Watts, Owen E Jones & Co Ltd, Maesteg.
