JoanPILKINGTONaged 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 20 at her home in Great Harwood. Joan was the cherished wife of the late Derek, much loved mother of Sarah and David, loving mother-in-law of John and Kirstin and dearly loved grandmother of Isabelle. Joan will be sadly missed by all her loving family, her friends and all those who knew her. May she rest in peace. She was born and raised in Clayton-le-Moors, with her parents, the late Philip and Janey, as well as younger brother, the late John. During her life, Joan worked for the family business, the Gilbraith Group, before taking on the role of mum full-time. Since she was young, Joan had always loved horses and even won ‘Cobb of the Year’ at Wembley with her fabulous steed, Hendi. She also enjoyed many family holidays. Along with her late husband Derek, Joan was a regular at both local and regional cricket matches. Together they even travelled to Australia and Trinidad and Tobago to watch England play. Joan’s family would like to thank Higher Heys Surgery, the District Nurses and East Lancashire Hospice for all their support. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 7 at St Mary’s RC Church in Clayton-le-Moors, followed by a private cremation.
