DerekPILKINGTONpassed away peacefully on Friday, March 10 at his home in Great Harwood, aged 86, Derek was the cherished husband of Joan, much-loved father of Sarah and David, loving father-in-law of John and Kristin, dearly loved grandfather of Isabelle. Derek will be very sadly missed by all his loving family, his friends and all those who knew him. May he rest in peace. He was born and raised in Oswaldtwistle, with his parents, the late Hughie and Edith, as well as younger brother, the late Kevin. During his life, Derek trained as a draftsman before working at Howard & Bullough. He then later became the chairman of Gilbraith Commercials and Tankers. Since he was young, Derek has always been a keen musician and had played in various bands. He also loved his many family holidays. Derek was a regular face at both local and regional cricket matches. He was the president of Church Cricket Club, a life time member of Lancashire Cricket Club, a member of the MCC and an avid supporter of Great Harwood Cricket Club. He even travelled with his wife Joan, to Australia and Trinidad and Tobago to watch his favourite sport. Derek’s family would like to thank Great Harwood Medical Group and the District Nurses for their support. A requiem mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 27 at St Mary’s RC Church in Clayton-le-Moors at 11am, followed by a private cremation.
