I just wanted to share a few words about my Nain. A bit about her history, and the things that she loved.
She was born in 1926, lived in Maenafon, then, Sarn Faban and then Bryn Cyrff.
She married in 1953 to my Taid, Gwylfa and moved to live in Benllech where my Dad was born in 1955.
In the early sixties they moved back to Llanfairpwll, firstly living in Fron Deg then in 1965 they moved to Annwylfa.
It was here where she bought her piano. I often sat besides her as she practiced on it.. A humble lady, with many hidden, extraordinary talents.
She was a very kind, caring & attentive soul…she was also very nurturing, and this could be seen in her passion for gardening after learning from her father. She knew all the names of the flowers in the garden and she felt proud after a hard day's work spent in her garden. Raspberry and gooseberry plants had been transplanted from Bryn Cyrff to Annwylfa’s spacious rear garden. Her homemade raspberry trifles and gooseberry pies were a delight to eat - fresh from the same, beloved garden.
Baking was also a passion, Homemade cakes & bara briths, christmas cakes, scones, rock cakes, fruit pies and treacle toffee were often cooked and offered to visitors
She had another love, and this was for knitting, and she used to knit various garments for family, friends and neighbors. In fact, anyone who had just had a newborn baby nearby, rest assured there’d be a knitted jumper on the way. When I visited her, she was busy finishing off her crosswords in the daily post. A sharp mind - rarely did she ask for assistance with finishing it.
As Derec kindly said, my Nain had such an avid love and passion for the chapel, for her community., for her family. These were the values that were close to her heart. It was here, in this very church where she played the organ most Sundays
Not only was her heart strong, but she survived bowel cancer when she was 81. Stepping out of hospital only a few days after the operation.
