Today’s the first anniversary Dad
of the day that I lost you
I am still so full of sadness
of pain and heartache too
Loss has taught me many things
and so I face each day
Living with my memories
and hearing what you’d say
I know that you still hear me Dad
so you know that this is true
The words I speak, the tears I cry
come from my heart for you
The fact that you’re no longer here
just fills my heart with pain
I only wish I had a chance
to hold you close again
When I think of earlier years
a smile comes to my face
Walking the dogs by your side
to many a special place
Countless happy times we shared
will always bring that smile
If only I could have you back
for just a little while
Then we could sit and talk again
just like we used to do
Those times meant the world to me
and always will do too
A year has passed, and days move on
your light remains, it’s never gone
In every breeze, in skies above
throughout each season, there is your love
Forever felt, so close, so near
in every memory Dad, you are here
