ShirleyMAUDSLEYMrs Shirley Maudsley sadly passed away on Thursday, September 9, aged 86. Shirley was born in London, moving to Manchester with her parents as a toddler. She was the eldest daughter of Wilfred and Ethel Nuttall. On leaving school, Shirley was employed as a seamstress. She also enjoyed making clothes for her sisters Carole and Doris. She loved being grandma and greatgrandma, spending time with her grandchildren and making clothes. She had become a Christian at a Billy Graham Crusade in Harringay in 1954 and from that time devoted her time to Jesus. She played organ at many churches, taught Sunday School, took ladies meetings and toddler groups and led church services. In recent years, Shirley was a faithful visitor and encourager. She was a talented dressmaker, producing everyday clothes, duffle coats, wedding dresses and soft furnishings, including curtains. Shirley always had a song in her heart; carers commented that they hadn’t often cared for people who sang worship songs. Wife of the late Fred Maudsley, grandma of the late Daniel Maudsley, and great-grandma of the late Zach Ingham. She leaves her sister Jackie, sons John and his wife Tracey, Peter and his wife Sandra, daughter Jill and her husband Chris, grandchildren Melanie, Jenny, James, Sarah, John, Cat, Luke, Josh, Katie and Sophie, greatgrandchildren Lola, George, Caleb, Isaac, Jonah, Archie and Oak. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Shirley’s funeral will take place on Wednesday, September 22, when a service will be held at Burnley Crematorium at 10.45am, led by Mr David Clegg and afterwards at Edgeside Baptist Church, Edgeside Lane, Waterfoot at 12noon, followed by lunch at the church. Family flowers only requested, however, should you wish to donate, please leave a gift for Edgeside Baptist Church or alternatively make a visit to anyone you believe would appreciate such, as Shirley might have done. Funeral director: Sharon Aspinall for Agápe Funeral Service, Waterfoot.
