Mary, as she liked to be called was my dear Mother in law. I first met her when I was a mere 15 year old.
Mum and her dear husband Bill were like parents to me, having lost my own Mother at 11 yrs old, Mum was there to advise and help me in times of trouble.
Dad and Mum loved the local canal and often spoke of the wildlife along there. We used to walk along the canal near to their home and Dad and Mum showed me the delights of the Kentish countryside, which in those days was delightful and mostly unspoiled.
My first ever Kingfisher catching a fish was seen while with Dad and he gave me a framed pic of a Kingfisher with lovely words on the back to keep in memory of the encounter.
Mum was with me when we spotted an otter; first time I had ever seen one.
Mum was a good cook and Xmas was a really special time at Mum and Dads. All the cakes and puddings Mum made were delicious.
Mum also loved her garden and was always pottering around and we used to exchange plants.
I was so sad when dear Dad passed away suddenly after a short illness.
I decided to do all I could to visit Mum in her loneliness and also to help with her dear ginger cat Marmaduke; taking him to vets and caring for his needs as best I could, as I had been doing when they were unable.
She was always glad to see me and appreciated my time with her, trying to encourage her to eat and drink and chatting to her.. taking her little gifts and flowers, which she loved so much.
Shall never forget either of you, and I miss our time together very much. I have your cat Marmaduke (Marmie) to care for. He settled down so well with me and Banjo cat after years of being terrified of me
No one can ever take a Mothers place but Mum virtually did that and I am forever grateful for both Mum and Dads support and kindness.
Bless you both. Rest in blissful peace together dear Mary and Bill xxx
