MaryLORDof Mapelford Nursing Home, Huncoat, Accrington passed away on February 24, aged 89 years. Mary began her working life at Naylors Printers, Church, where she remained for a short time before moving to the T.S.B Bank, Accrington where she trained as a clerk and worked there for many years. She then moved to St Mary’s School, Clayton-leMoors taking up the role of school secretary and worked there for over 10 years up to her retirement. Mary had many interests - she was a magistrate, serving in Accrington. She was also the first lady chairperson of the Walsingham Association. She was very interested in local history and ran a heritage group from St Joseph’s Church, Accrington. She enjoyed fell walking with her late husband Michael. Mary was a life-long member of St Anne’s, St Mary’s Clayton-le-Moors and St Joseph’s Catholic Churches all in the Hyndburn area. She enjoyed foreign holidays including Rome and Austria. She was very keen on classical music and visits to the theatre. She liked watching cricket and followed Accrington Cricket Club. Mary was the beloved wife of the late Michael, dear sister of the late Peter and a dear sister-in-law of Margaret. She was a much-loved auntie and a good friend to all who knew her. May she rest in peace. A requiem mass will be held on Friday, March 10 at 10am at St Joseph’s RC Church, Accrington, conducted by FR Francis Wadsworth. Followed by interment at Accrington Cemetery, Burnley Road, Accrington. Family flowers only, donations to St Joseph’s RC Church c/o Hyndburn Funeral Services, Queens Road, Accrington.
