Roderick Edwin LamontLIDDLERod passed away in the company of family and friends at James Cook Hospital, Middlesbrough on Sunday 2nd August. Beloved husband of Alicia and father of Tyler, Wilder and Emmy. Rod will be missed by many, locally and nationwide.

Rod grew up in Middlesbrough and attended the Laurence Jackson School in Guisborough. Rod rose to fame as a journalist. In 1998 he became the editor of the BBC's Today Programme, he went on to become a writer beloved by many for his witty and astute political commentary. Rod never lost his love for the North East and moved to Saltburn in his later years.

Rod's funeral will be held at St Nicholas Church, Guisborough on Monday 24th August at 12.30pm.

I knew you since 1983 at the LSE. Great times- despite you rarely being in tutorials! You were working at House of Commons at the time as well. Always industrious and ultra sharp. Then you move to Saltburn and I bumped into you in shop as you were buying your ciggis . I recognised the cough before I saw you! We laughed as we were both chunky chappies at that stage. At LSE we were like gothic drainpipes. You are a credit to the Great North, Rod. I am glad you have ‘ come home’ to be in our sacred earth. You were loved and will be missed. Thank you for being my friend. Paul.
