HildaLENTON(Nee Jackson) Born in Hull on this day, 100 years ago, 9 days after the outbreak of World War I. She had a very hard life living in a poor area by the docks. She worked at Carmichael's the jewellers first as a parcel girl, then in the watch repair department and finally serving behind the counter. At the outbreak of World War II, she became a telephonist in the Hull Fire Service. In 1941 she married Claude and moved to Leicester. After losing stillborn twins and a son, she went on to have 3 children - Jane (me), Philip and Rosalind. She worked hard throughout her life at various ancillary jobs ending up as a housekeeping assistant at the University. She had many interests, attending art, French and singing classes as well as playing the guitar, mandoline and piano. She was a marvellous wife, mother and grandmother working hard to help her children achieve what she herself was denied by the harsh circumstances of her early life. She died aged 88 in 2002. Mourned by all her family and we remember her today with much love.
