Norah ClareISHERWOODDied peacefully aged 94 in Blackburn Hospital on Friday, February 10, after a sudden stroke. Norah grew up in Middleton and attended Notre Dame Convent Grammar School in Manchester. She then trained at Mount Pleasant RC Training College in Liverpool. She was a qualified teacher at 19 and began her teaching career at St Anne’s RC Primary School where she met Alan. They married in 1955 and were together for nearly 62 years, until Alan died in early 2017. They both worked at St Mary’s RC Primary School in Clayton-le-Moors then in 1968 moved to work at the new St Joseph’s RC Primary School in Winsford, Cheshire, where Alan was the head, and Norah later became head of the Infant School. 11-years-ago they returned to East Lancashire to live in Larmenier Retirement Village, Blackburn where she was active in the church and made many friends. A devout Roman Catholic all her life, Norah also had passions for cats, caravanning, especially in France, and, in later years, Formula 1 racing! She leaves behind her children Jane and Aidan, two younger sisters Margaret and Kathy (her younger brother John is deceased), grandchildren Sara and Thomas and a great-grandson Zacharias. Requiem mass will be celebrated at Larmenier Village Chapel on Monday, March 13 at 1.30pm, followed by committal at Pleasington Crematorium.
