DorisHOWARTHPassed away unexpectedly but peacefully at home on Tuesday 9th June 2020, aged 83 years. She sadly leaves behind her dear niece Linda and nephews Malcolm, Michael and Stephen. Doris will be very sadly missed by all her family, her Guiding friends and all those whose lives she touched. Her funeral service will be held at 10.00am, on Wednesday 15th July 2020 at St James Church, Accrington. Anyone who wishes to pay their respects may do so by adhering to the current social distancing rules in the Church Grounds and along Cannon St. A socially distant Guard of Honour will also be formed at the entrance to the church. Donations in memory of Doris are being received for the Accrington Division Girl Guides, either over the phone or by envelope drop off at the funeral home (Accrington or Oswaldtwistle), further enquiries please to Sarah Barton at Barton & Hallworth Funeral Service, The Old Foxhill, 136-8 Union Road, Oswaldtwistle. Alka! It will never be right to call you Doris, always Alka to us!!!! You were just the best, you shaped so many people's lives, so many of us looked up to you for so much more than guiding and banding - you were just such an inspiration and had so much to give. You are such a special person to so many more people than you will ever realise, you've touched more hearts and minds than anyone could count... Rest in Peace my dear dear Alka, you will never know what you meant to us. xx

RIP Doris (Alka). Still finding it so hard to believe you are no longer with us and also your absolute legend of a husband, Brian. You had such an impact on so many Guiding lives. We, your Band Girls, will never forget how much you did for us- the music, the lifelong friendships, and the memorable Band Weekends up at Waddow. Do keep that Guiding light twinkling up there and rest well.

Doris you will never know how much you gave to my Guiding life. You were a great support and friend when I arrived here from London 20 years ago. And have remained so ever since.
