Douglas AspinHOULKERMr Douglas Aspin Houlker, who resided in Preesall Knott End, but previously from Accrington, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, November 30, aged 86. Dougie leaves behind his much-loved wife Sylvia, his sons Stephen and Tony, his daughter Julie, his dear sisters Carole and Rosemary, brother-in-law Derrick, his grandchildren Dan, Abbi, Ben, Lucas, Lexi, Ivy, Silvia and Tony, and great-grandchildren Harlie and Martina. Dougie was born in 1935. He grew up in Accrington but travelled around the world during his time in the Navy. He was well known in the local community for his own business based in 61 Abbey Street in Accrington, ‘Viva Gas Appliances’. This business thrived throughout the 70s, 80s, and 90s. In his spare time Dougie had quite a passion for horse and dog racing; he enjoyed the occasional flutter. He later moved to Ireland, then Cornwall, then more recently Preesall. He was a much-loved character with a fabulous sense of humour; he will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. Dougie’s funeral will take place on Friday, December 17, at 10.20am, at Accrington Crematorium. Family flowers only please, but donations are being gratefully received for the Trinity Hospice at Home Team, who gave him great comfort and support. Funeral director: Wolstenholme Funeral Directors, Accrington.
