JohnHOLLANDIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John on June 16, aged 71 years.

John was the beloved son of the late John and Hilda Holland and brother to Susan and cousin to Eileen and Edward. He leaves two sons, Paul and Wayne and was a great friend to many.

John left Rhyddings School at 15 and started work as an apprentice butcher in Oswaldtwistle.
Unfortunately the butcher died before John could finish his apprenticeship.
John joined the army and served for six years, including a period in Germany,
which was his favourite time in the army.
One of the jobs he was given was to help train the dogs.
John’s role was to don a special suit and run as fast as he could. The dogs always caught him.
John was invalided out of the army after he damaged his knee during an exercise.
After leaving the army, John worked at several companies in Oswaldtwistle, including, John Woods Steel Drums, Cocker Chemicals and Gaskells. He ended his working life at Brockhall Village working alongside his Auntie Gladys.
During his teenage years John was a lover of heavy metal music. He loved Black Sabbath and Guns and Roses
but as he got older he turned his affection to Simon and Garfunkel.
John loved to socialise with his many friends and also followed horse racing with his dad.
John became ill with Korsakoff Syndrome and was admitted to hospital in 2008.
He was later transferred to Spring Hill Care Home where he spent the remainder of his life.
He was well loved by all of the staff, who enjoyed his sense of humour.

The funeral service will take place on Monday, July 14, at Accrington Crematorium at 3pm.
