JillHOLBROOKJill Holbrook died on 8 August 2026, aged 94.
She was an infant school teacher for over forty years, specialising in music and teaching English as a foreign language.
She taught at Southfields Primary School, Coventry, between 1970 and 1992, before teaching at Stoke Heath (1992-1994).
She came from South Petherton, Somerset, and after training in Portsmouth (1950-1952), taught for three years in east London, Woodford Green (1952-1955).
In 1956 Miss Gillian Chaffey (as she was then known) married Charles Holbrook, also a schoolteacher, and they had two sons, Stephen (1961) and Jonathan (1962). In Coventry they lived in Binley before moving to the Grange Farm Estate, then Styvechale, then Cannon Park and finally The Gables, Eastern Green, where they lived for over thirty years until 2019. Jill then lived in a care home in Watford.
Jill Holbrook loved hosting family and friends and in her retirement she warmly welcomed to The Gables a great many including English language students from around the world and 'the needlework ladies' from Eastern Green.
Jill will be remembered for her joy, vibrant personality, love for children and empathy for everyone.
Her funeral will be on 17 September at West Herts Crematorium. Further details at: https://jillholbrook.muchloved.com/
