IreneHIGSONMiss Irene Higson, of Henley House Care Home, Accrington, died on Wednesday, April 6, aged 96. Irene worked at Broadoak Calico Print Works as a touch up artist, adding detail to printed material. She worked there for most of her working life, up until the closure of the business. She was a staunch member of St Anne’s RC Church, where she was actively involved in both the spiritual and social side of the church. She was also very involved in deaf clubs right across Lancashire. Irene loved her holidays, having once visited her sister in Australia. She also went on pilgrimage to Lourdes on two occasions. Along with her late friend Sheila, she enjoyed many holidays in the UK. Irene enjoyed completing puzzle books, knitting, water painting, and loved reading newspapers, but most of all, she got great comfort from reading her Bible. Irene leaves many nieces and nephews, and was a dear friend to the many people who supported her throughout her life. A Requiem Mass will be held on Thursday, April 21, at 10.15am at St Joseph’s RC Church, Accrington, led by Fr Francis Wadsworth, followed by burial at 11.30am at Dill Hall Cemetery. Family flowers only; donations if desired to The Deaf Society c/o funeral director Hyndburn Funeral Services, Accrington.
