KathleenGRIMSHAWOn Thursday, September 16, peacefully in hospital, with her family at her side, Kathleen Grimshaw, aged 85, of Accrington. Kathleen, one of six children of the late Annie and Bill, lived all her life in Accrington. She spent her schooldays at St Oswald’s Accrington before starting work at Jerome Frears and continuing at Mastabar. Throughout her working life Kathleen had numerous jobs but will be most remembered for the many years she spent as a dinner lady at St Anne’s and St Joseph’s school, and also as a cleaner at Peel House Medical Centre on Avenue Parade. Kathleen was passionate about sport, playing netball, football and swimming regularly. In her later years she swapped playing for spectating, and was an avid supporter of her children and grandchildren, and was known for supplying the half-time refreshments. Kathleen’s other great love was dancing. In her youth, alongside her life-long friend Pat, they took part in shows up and down the country, sharing the stage with Hilda Baker. Kathleen loved spending time with her family and for a period of 10 years she was rarely seen without a pram as she helped with a succession of grandchildren. Kathleen was a lifelong member of both St Anne’s and St Joseph’s Churches. Kathleen leaves her dearly loved husband of 61 years Bernard. The much-loved Mum of Catherine, David and Christopher, the sadly missed mother-in-law of David and Christine, a devoted and treasured Nan of Laura, Conor, Callum, Dominic, Liam, Bethany, Kieren, Frankie and Lennon, and Great-Nan to Amber and George. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. Requiem Mass to celebrate her life will be held at St Anne’s RC Church, Accrington, on Thursday, September 30 at 10am, prior to interment at Accrington Cemetery. Family flowers only please; donations if so desired to Woodhaven Day Care Centre, who provided much fun and support over the last three years. Funeral director: Hyndburn Funeral Services, Accrington.

I remember her so well when I was a child... living on Lodge Street in Accrington. I was - perhaps 5/6 years old at the time? Must be 53 years ago! But I remember so very well.. and on top of that, her beautiful daughter Kath, married my cousin David Gaskill years later! Bless her heart..my sincere love and remembrance of a wonderful lady.
Kindness itself x

What a gorgeous soul. Always smiling, you made my first few weeks at St Anne’s Infants so much more bearable with your lovely, kind face, comforting cuddles and daft jokes. As I grew up, it was always a pleasure to see you out and about around Accrington, cheery as ever and always so supportive and interested in how I was. My family all adored you as much as I did and we’re all sending dear Bernard and the whole family all the strength and love in the world. Thank you for the memories, dear, dear Mrs Grimshaw, Rest in Peace, beautiful lady, lots of love, Adriana, together with Angela, Joe and Marco Alessi xxxxxx
