I wish that I was with you today, saying goodbye to Kathleen Ann.
First I’d like to thank the Care Home staff - in case anyone is attending today. Richard and I felt helpless being so far away, unable to visit enough and be part of her daily life there. Nonetheless knowing that the staff is so kind and caring gave us the security that she was in good hands.
If you had known Kathleen Ann when she was still able to communicate, you would have been impressed by her kindness, her open interest in others, and her love of conversation. She had many stories to tell.
Kathleen had endured more than enough pain and hardship for one person and there were wounds. But she was able to laugh at the folly of her life, find the beauty in things and carry on.
Among my fondest memories are times spent with Kathleen — in her garden, comparing birds in the Uk to those in the US, visiting charity shops and exploring at Chatsworth House grounds. For comfort, I imagine that she is somewhere, chatting away with my parents, and anyone else who I’ve known and loved in this life.
I will miss her.
