Pops,

Yes, I have fond memories, and yes, they are important and cherished and full of love. But it's the legacy that you left me with that will be truly loved and remembered, as it's ingrained in me. It's part of me, and it has molded me into the person I have become, and for that, I am truly grateful, for the love, the support and encouragement x

Really sad to hear of the passing of an old work colleague from back in the day.
I remember back in my BT days, after working on "the tools" I volunteered to go into an office environment, (it must have been early to mid 1990's) Swan House, where Dave took the time and made the effort to support and encourage my transition, and provide training that was second to none, he willingly shared his knowledge built up over many years and also shared tales of his early years in the Post Office.
His relaxed laid back approach certainly helped me come to terms and learn new computing systems which previously were alien to me.
As is usually the case, we both moved on with our careers, eventually leaving BT, and leaving behind those friendships which we remember so fondly.
I will always remember Dave as someone who was above all friendly, an unconditional willingness to help, support and encourage, definitely one of the good guys in life.
I am at work on the day of your service/celebration of your life, and may not make it to the crem, if I don't, I will be thinking of you and will raise a glass to your memory on Thursday evening.
RIP Dave, a real gentleman, one of a kind.

DAVID GREENWELL – from Alan and Pat Gibson

Every time we met up with David and Christine, we had such fun and truly valued their friendship. So it’s very difficult to pinpoint any single event involving David which stands out. Many of our happy memories involved sitting on their Carabela terrace, enjoying the hospitality and ambience and listening to David’s jokes and take on life. We had some of the best evenings and some of the best hangovers. It’s hard to believe he’s no longer physically with us.
David to us was a genuine, stand-out guy who loved his family beyond everything else. He had worked hard all his life and was supposedly enjoying retirement, although he always found gainful employment doing something – whether he liked it or not!
We can still see him now, sitting at the table on the terrace, doing his morning puzzles until the siren call “David!” carried across the pool and he responded to the lovely Christine with an exaggerated eyeroll. He made a fantastic poolside waiter, ferrying vodka and tonics on request, and a willing unpaid labourer/plumber/electrician when we came up against jobs in our own apartment that needed a bit more expertise. The flimsy poolside gates became such a pain that he and Alan devised metal plates that held them secure, which was carried out at dead of night after a few glasses of vino. The powers that be soon got wind and removed them – only to put their own version on a few days later…
One final abiding memory was during a music night at Sgt Peppers in Alcudia when he entertained us to his own version of “Raindrops Keeping Falling On My Head” by borrowing someone’s bike and making an unforgettable entrance.
When we turned up, often almost at the last minute in Ponteland, either on our way to or from Scotland, the hospitality from David and Christine was second to none, including the best bacon sandwiches and some of the best stories.
Farewell to one of a kind and a truly lovely man, David Greenwell.
