OliviaGIANNINIWe announce the death of Olivia Giannini (nee Verrico). She died in Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley, following a stroke. Mrs Giannini was a well-known business woman in Balloch. To those in her adopted community she was better known as Mrs. G., the person who in the 60s and 70s ran two of the more popular watering holes and gathering points: Loch Lomond Café, generally called The Big Café or Gininy's and later the Ben. Before moving to Balloch after marrying Emilio Giannini Olivia taught English and History in Bishopbriggs, her hometown. She was also a champion ballroom dancer, long before Strictly Come Dancing rendered it popular, a high board diver, though she said she "never had time to learn to swim". Olivia remained active well into her eighties. She started rehoming rescued greyhounds and many will remember her walking with them around the Bonhill area. Later she moved to Oakbank. The family would like to thank the carers there who helped her. Particular thanks go to Lorna and Patrice who became like family, Nicola and Ann who all cared so well for her when she needed it. Olivia will be cremated in a quiet ceremony at Cardross Crematorium on Thursday 27th January at 11:15am. She will be sadly missed.
