Rhiannon AliceDAVIESIt is with sadness the family must announce the death of Rhiannon Davies, nee Redfearne, formerly of Babworth Crescent, Retford and Charter Court, Retford. Rhiannon became increasingly frail in the last few years and died aged 91, on 4th September 2023, at St Saviours Care Home, Retford, with all of her large family saying goodbye over the final days of her life. A caring wife and widow to John, a much loved mother to Peter, Trisha, Jon, Alicia and Rob, a special grandma to Andrew, Stephen, Sian and Emma and a dear sister to Bunty - all her family will greatly miss her. Her strength, intelligence and indomitable spirit shone throughout her life.

Growing up in Woodbeck, Nottinghamshire, she went to school in Retford before moving to London to train as a primary school teacher specialising in music. Here, she met John at a dance, and they married in 1953. They moved between various places in southern England and Wales. As well as working, she raised five children and supported John in his medical career and later nursed him for several decades through Myasthenia Gravis. Widowed in 2000, she returned to Retford where she enjoyed many years with friends old and new. She especially valued the companionship of her friend, Walter, with whom she shared many hobbies and holidays.

Rhiannon's hobbies included playing the piano, singing, bridge, bowls, art, the Welsh Society, the Women's Institute and gardening. Among many other things, her family remember with joy the fun camping trips she organised, her delicious roast dinners, her support, her generosity, her extensive knowledge (especially of medical matters), and her ferocious independence. Her family is so very sorry that she is no longer with us, but takes comfort from her long and inspiring life.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at St Saviours Church, Welham Road, Retford on Friday 29th September 2023 at 12 noon. All welcome. Please dress however you feel comfortable. No flowers please but donations if desired to Royal Osteoporosis Society (theros.org.uk). Rhiannon's final resting place will be in Cardiff with her husband John
