Ms Curley taught me in Year 5 at Simon Marks school, when I was 9. I’m 34 now, and she still stays with me as being the best teacher I ever had. I was really sorry to learn of her passing, she was an inspiration of a woman! She encouraged us all to read, make art, persevere, find the fun in things, follow passions, learn Latin phrases, worship cats and tell stories. My class loved her so much that we spent a week of break-times huddled around a bench, writing a song for her based on ‘When the Going Gets Tough’ (the Tough Gets Curley!) Now I work with children too, and I think of her sometimes- amused and in awe of the idea of a rowdy bunch of 9 year olds forgoing playtime entirely of their own volition, to work together, to write a song in any adult’s honour. What a testament to her impact. Thanks for everything Anne, you were an absolute diamond- and hundreds and hundreds of children- now adults- will be better off for having met you.
