StanleyCROSSBorn Southport 25 October 1921 Died Southport 8 March 2008. Our Dad So transparent, we hear him on the 'phone listening, watching, thinking, guessing, worrying about grandchildren's mortgages and how to beat the Lottery. He's pleased we have nice homes, good friends, standards, stability. His dad, laying track for the Cheshire Lines brought home straying rabbits for the pot and placed his Great War coat, which had lain in French trenches, on his childrens bed, muffling them in unheated home. Some scoffed at our Dad's simplicity, naivete, no computer skills yet he communicated with strangers quicker than the internet can, making chums on a train, in a pub, with a kindly, brown-eyed openness. A thrifty, Lancashire upbringing, frugal, tight-fisted, bolted down his wallet Thrice-reflecting before coin-parting, he crusaded against today's prices on behalf of ordinary people needing railway tickets, shoes, bread, potatoes, funerals. Gentle, seldom furious, often sad about TV swearing, poverty, lethargy, drugs, shop-aholics, costly holidays and family break-ups, Our Dad will remain forever in our hearts. In everloving memory of Our Dad. - Pen and Anth xxx.
