PhilipCHIPPENDALESuddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 23 Philip Alan, aged 72, of West Bradford and formerly of Accrington. The devoted much loved husband of Laraine and the late Joyce who he lost in 1991, loving dad of John and Steven, loved step-dad of Catherine, Ema and Christopher, dear father-inlaw of Alli, Sarah, Gareth and Adam, adored brother of Pam and Wendy, cherished grandad of Mikey and Sophie and a well respected relative and friend to many. Born and bred in Accrington, Philip attended Springhill school before going on to study at Accrington grammar school. Following his school years Philip started his working life at the Lancashire Telegraph and then went in to sales at Fisons, before making the move to Spain running a bar whilst selling villas. Following his return to the UK, Philip worked at Sciglass before taking over the Dog & Partridge pub which he ran for ten years - becoming a well known face in the local community. Philip loved life and made the most of every day; he loved cheese and fine wine and was a lifelong avid Burnley supporter. He was a keep fit fanatic, member of Clayton Harriers and over the years has competed in many marathons including London, New York, Benidorm and Majorca, and also completed the coast to coast walk. He loved the outdoors and the wonders of nature and he was never one to be beaten. Even following a double hip replacement, Philip completed a walk from Land’s End to John O’Groats. In his lifetime, Philip has done more than most, including horse riding across Patagonia, Chile, he spent six months touring west Africa on a land expedition and has actually been to Timbukto. Philip’s funeral service will be held at St Helen’s Church, Waddington at 1pm on Wednesday, March 16 followed by committal at Accrington Crematorium.
