MyraBYRNEOn Saturday, July 17, Myra Byrne, of Accrington, devoted wife to the late Michael Byrne and treasured mother to Christine and Stephen, died peacefully, aged 83, in the Royal Blackburn Hospital, after a short illness, surrounded by her family. After attending Accrington High School for Girls, where she grew to love French and Latin, and after achieving good exam results, Myra started work at the Department of Social Security as a switchboard telephonist, where she continued shorthand and typing studies at night school, soon becoming competent enough to take over teaching responsibilities whenever the instructor was absent. Myra loved to participate in ballroom dancing, and with a good instructor and dance partner in her husband Michael, they would frequent the local clubs and dance halls. Myra’s funeral will take place at Accrington Crematorium on Friday, July 30, at 11.40am, led by Rev Michele Jarmany. Family flowers only, but donations are welcomed for the North West Air Ambulance c/o funeral director Hyndburn Funeral Services, Accrington.
