MaggieBODELL-STAGG JPIt is with great sorrow that I announce the passing of my sweet and lovely wife Maggie Bodell-Stagg, JP. She was promoted to glory on the afternoon of August 18th, 2022, after serious complications following an operation at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. Maggie was a well-loved and much respected member of our community here in Leicester, serving for 17 years on the city council and becoming Lord Mayor in 2002, raising £100,000 for her deserving charities. Born at St. Thomas' Hospital in London in 1948, she was aged 74 years, when she was taken far too early and had the zest for life which is rarely seen. If you had met Maggie she would have left an impression that you will never forget. Kind, generous to a fault but with a strong and remarkable character that stood her as a great orator in her professional and personal life. Maggie had a heart of gold always thinking of others before herself, over the years being a member of several charitable organisations, helping those in need and giving her time freely and unselfishly. Her time working in homeless and care organisations for the past 35 years, culminated with the last 10 years at the Salvation Army, being the national funding officer for all the Salvation Army elderly care homes. Survived by myself, Paul her husband of nearly 30 years and her son Dominic and daughter in law Clare, her sister Joan and husband Dennis, as well as a number of nephews and nieces. The funeral notices will be forthcoming at a later date. Please find the book of Condolence at: http://margaretbodell-stagg.muchloved.com

I was only aware of Maggie's demise yesterday. She was indded a lovely lady. She visited LOROS in 2002 and sat and talked to my dad. A photograph was sent to me of this visit. My dad said "I sat there on my own and nobody else was in sight, then blow me, the Lord Mayor walked around the corner." It really made his day. After my father's death I wrote to Maggie and told her of how pleased my father was at meeting her and having a chat. I didn't expect a reply, but a few days later I received a lovely hand written letter from her; I still have it. I am so sorry to hear of her death, she was a very special person. May you rest in peace Maggie and thank you for what you did that day for a dying man. Frances Pawley.

I first met Maggie at Norwich Union on Horsefair Street many moons ago! She was always so kind and lovely. She would waltz into the office with a big smile and a Hello!
What an amazing lady. I will miss her so much! X

I met Maggie whilst I was working at Leicester City Council and very soon I knew I had found someone who had a passion for helping others in what every way she could. We worked on several projects for Homeless and Vulnerable People in the City, which were very successful including Supporting the work of the Salvation Army. I became a JP and Maggie followed to become one sometime later. It is rare to find someone with both a passion for others and a zest for life that she shared with everyone. She was not afraid to speak up for the disadvantaged and we shared many ideas of how to make the changes. It has been sometime since I last saw Maggie, but the memories I now still have will stay with me. Thank you Maggie may you find peace in heaven. You will still be missed by many and you efforts and success will I know have made life better for so many people. x
