RonaldBESTOn Saturday, July 3, Ronald Best, aged 93, passed away peacefully. The dearly loved husband of Pauline, much loved dad of Sharon and Deborah, beloved grandad of Keeley, Vicki, Robyn, Chris, Samantha, Mark, Tom and Neil, loved great-grandad to Thomas and Ella, and loved brother of Gordon and Pauline in Canada. Ronnie was born in Oswaldtwistle, and was the son of Albert Charles and Ann Best, and did his National Service in the Royal Navy on HMS Rapid, 1945 to 1948. He worked for the MOD as a Civil Engineer and travelled to India on business. He married Pauline in 1959, and they had 62 lovely years together. Ronnie loved music and although he never played an instrument, he had an amazing ear for it, whether he was watching Last Night of the Proms on TV, or sitting listening to his favourites at home, and in his car. His love of music also inspired his wife Pauline and his two daughters to really appreciate music. He led a very full and active life, and loved sailing, skiing, windsurfing, tennis, and, until recently, loved nothing more than climbing up Pendle Hill and paragliding from the top, as he was a qualified paragliding pilot. He travelled the world, and spent much of his time in Spain and South Africa. If he wasn’t travelling, he would most likely be found in his garage on his lathe making furniture etc. for their home. He loved spending time with his family, had a great sense of humour, and loved to share stories of his adventures with family and friends. His funeral will take place on Tuesday, August 24 at Accrington Crematorium at 12.20pm, and will leave from his home address. Donations in memory of Ronald are being collected for Alzheimer’s Society. Funeral director: Wolstenholme Funeral Service, Accrington.
