RoyBENTLEYof Gloucester Avenue, Accrington, passed away on October 19, aged 84 years. Roy was a copper smith, building parts for Steam Trains and later, becoming a general metal worker. He last worked at the GEC in Accrington until being diagnosed with MS in 1985 which was when he retired. He was also a marksman, cinema projectionist, boxer and senior aircraftsman for the RAF Regiment stationed at El Adem in Tobruk, North Africa – spending the most talked about years of his life there. Roy was a member of a day centre group for many years, made up of those that became his very good friends, of which only one survives him. He was a key member of the quiz group, creating the questions every week. A keen movie buff, being able to rhyme off the names of actors from 100s of movies made throughout the decades. Interests included fabulous home cooked food from Spoilt4Choice Cafe in Great Harwood (credit where credit is due), plus those prepared by family. Divorced in 1975, he had two children, now all grown with families of their own; Angela and Stephen. He had seven grandchildren, Sasha, William, Phillip, Jacob, Sebastian, Bruce and Myles. A cremation at Accrington Crematorium, Burnley Road, Huncoat, will be held on November 4 at 3pm. Roy would always say buy flowers for living loved ones who will appreciate them. Roy would say make sure family is ok first. Funeral directors: Hyndburn Funeral Services.
