The pain was overwhelming and my tears fell all too soon,It took me by surprise the thought entering my head,I won't buy a gift or card this year beacause my Dad is dead,I'll never hear your voice again, I'll never see your face,My world without you Dad is such a lonely place,The memories of your suffering haunt my dreams at night,You fought so hard to stay with us but in the end you lost the fight,Your frail and weakened body at last began to fail,I felt your hand becoming cold, gasping breath and skin so pale,I held you close in my arms; I said my last goodbye,I told you to let go and find the light, but I couldn't watch you die,I had to turn and walk away, didn't want the boys to see,And at last no more suffering or pain, your soul had been set free, A year has now passed and it's time to face my fears,Alone I've cried a river of heart broken daughter's tears,No more coffees together, you flicking through "The Sun",A quick call to the bookies before the next race begun,No more spending time being Grandad, your life's greatest joys,It broke your heart to know you had to leave me and the boys,But my tears can't fall for ever, I know you'd want me to move on,I must learn to let you go and face that you are gone,I'll hold on to our happy memories, I'll cherish the times we had,I know we'll meet again one day until then I'll miss you Dad,Always know I love you and you live on inside my heart,I'll hold onto your love for me and we'll never be apart.
