MargaretASHWORTHMargret ASHWORTH Margret Ashworth, formerly of Waddington Road, Accrington, passed away peacefully in hospital, on Wednesday, May 26, aged 83. During her life, Margaret was a hard worker and worked for Booth & Duxbury, Sprake & Ranson Solicitors, then later at Barlow Rowland Solicitors, where she stayed for over 30 years as a conveyancer. In her spare time and during her retirement she greatly enjoyed playing golf, especially at her home club of Accrington, where she was a member for over 40 years and later became an honorary member. During this time she had the great honour of being their Lady Captain in 1983, as well as the Centenary Lady Captain in 1993, by a popularity vote. She also proudly served as Lady President for a three year stint in 2003, 2004 and 2005. She achieved a ‘Hole In One’ at the club too. Sport was a key part of Margaret’s life, as she also co-founded Baxenden Ladies Cricket in the 1960’s, as well as being an avid badminton player during this time. She was also a dedicated committee member of ELGA (East Lancashire Golf Association) for many years too. When not on the golf course she also loved spending time with her family and going on holiday, especially to the Canary Islands, with her favourite destination being Lanzarote, where she enjoyed many, many holidays. Margaret sadly leaves behind her beloved husband of 64 years John (Jack), her dearly loved daughter Jill, her dear son-in-law Paul, her treasured grandson Nick and his wife Stacey and her much loved sisters Joan and Marian. She will be very sadly missed by all her loving family and friends. A private funeral service will be held for family and invited close friends only, due to the current government restrictions. Family flowers only please, but donations are welcomed in memory of Margaret for the Stroke Association and may be made by phone, by post, or by envelope drop off at the funeral home (Accrington or Oswaldtwistle). Funeral director: Paul Barton for Barton & Hallworth Funeral Service, Oswaldtwistle.
