Richard MatthewSCOTTIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard, a much-loved son of Keith, beloved brother of Catherine, and heroic uncle to Jem and Harry.

Scotty, I’m struggling for words. You’ve been part of my life for 50 years, half a century of friendship, adventures, and mischief.

You’ve left me with a lifetime of incredible memories.

You were a unique soul - kind, gentle, intelligent and funny. Always there when people needed you, including me. You were an adventurer, sailer, mountaineer, aviator, soldier, firefighter, traveler, spiritual guide and a friend. You had this rare ability to turn your hand to anything and make it look effortless - from fitting a full central heating system, to climbing an 8,000-metre mountain, man-hauling to the North Pole, cycling the length of the country or sailing across an ocean. You stood your ground and lived by what you believed was right.

You inspired me to try things I might never have dared on my own. You gave me pep talks when I needed them, and our deep, spiritual conversations helped guide me through life’s storms.

I had no idea of the torment you were carrying when we last spoke. That hurts.

Rest easy now, brother. You’ll never be forgotten, you’re part of me forever.
xxx

Richard, Matthew SCOTT;Scotty. I count myself so lucky to have shared the last 10 years of my life with my husband, with you as my friend. You were always true, kind, honest and gentle. I knew I could always count on you in times of need and you were a true and loyal friend to me. We spent many happy times together both in Derby and in Scotland and this photo was taken on one of our days out. Thank you for your love, support, quiet laughter and friendship. Things will never be the same and your place remains at our table... I still find myself turning to Mark to say: "phone Scotty, 'see if he wants to come over". This is not the end and that invitation will have to wait til we meet again, in Heaven. Scotty, may God bless you and keep you safe, with your lovely mum, and with Dan and Lennie for company.xxx
