Christophe Maertens sincerely shares in the sorrow that has befallen you all, family and friends, with the passing of Shirley.
We, as Belgian friends—Rik, Marc, and myself—wish you much courage and strength during these difficult and somber days. Hopefully, all the beautiful memories of Shirley may evoke a warm and affectionate feeling. Cherish these beautiful memories of Shirley in your hearts.
We visited Shirley at her office in Keir about six times a year (since 2001!). Each time, we were received with a warm smile, were always helped, and could count on her presence and support during our stay in Keir. Of course, we also understand that Shirley fought against her terrible illness and that not every day was a celebration. But with some Belgian chocolate and a warm chat in her office about the ins and outs of her work, a warm and cheerful Shirley would emerge once again. I, and we, will always remember Shirley with great pleasure! In particular, we received her last message from her at the end of last year.
Thank you for everything.
Wishing you much strength and sincere condolences.
Our thoughts are with Shirley and you.
