In Memoriam for Albert TOMKINS (Bertie)

AlbertTOMKINSFormerly of Rothwell Street off Whitefield Road.

In the late 1940's we would go over to places like Thurstaston with our moth eaten tents, we used to put them on the sands overlooked by the small cliffs.

Bertie said, "throw this rock down Dave on to the tent, there's enough holes in them already so another hole won't make much difference.

A bit later, when one of the lads came staggering out of the tent, he seemed to have grown a lump on the back of his head almost as big as his own head. The only thing he was concerned about when he was shouting up to us-with his plate of beans splattered all over his face, was, "I'll get you, Tomkins, for this!" The two of us ran along the cliff edge, laughing our heads off.

Just one small memory of Bertie years ago.

From Dave and Maria Russell.
